Guest guest
Hey up Tim, long time no see! Yep, married, Mortgaged and pupped. Attached snap of the 2 new additions, turned 1 on 7th Oct, we got the hound at the same time. Not sure there is room in the gaff for another Gt Dane that Donna wants though. I see you've joined the ranks of the married men? was it ? I hope you're both well. I'm working for Oilfield Medics still, on the Rowan Gorilla VII currently on a drilling, simultaneous production job in the Ardmore field. 3 & 3, out of Scotia on a Monday AM 07.00hrs. Are you still at OMSI or been snapped up full time with any company. Not sure if you have an UTD phone number / address, if you want it let me know, if you've still got the mobile number it is the same. So how does the site work then? I went to reply to someone and it looked like it was going to post it up and the " rules " didn't seem to like that!! Anyway, 2 flights this afternoon, so I'll be kept out of mischief, only the 11th of the month and seen 100+ bods already. God I love this job??!! Take it easy, speak to you soon. Kev. PS, OOPPS, sorry bout the size of the attachement, as you'll have figured, I still am a bit all at sea with computers :-) --------------------------------- Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Get the FREE Messenger

The staff is very involved with the children. In addition to the basics and therapies, they have a special science program (including an indoor lab and lots of outdoor 'experiments') which he loves and even yoga. He has, type 1 diabetes, asthma, Sensory Integration dysfunction and DAS (Developmental apraxia of Speech). He's grown out of Laryngomalacia, GERD (reflux) and hopefully ear infections (knocking on wood -- the last set of tubes fell out over two years ago). He's had three sets of ear tubes, a T & A, tear ducts dilated and probed and a cardiac 'intervention' to close up a PDA. He's been hospitalized for viral syndrome, pneumonia (twice) and diabetes. You'd never know this to look at him. He's always been around the 50th percentile on the typical kids growth charts. Most people who meet him comment on how happy he is. Although his expressive speech is extremely poor, his receptive speech is very close to being on target for his age. He has an augmentative communication device, which he hasn't used much this term (speech therapist problems). Because of his speech delays you can't always tell what's going on in his head. Two consecutive teachers have expressed that they feel he's very bright. He certainly knows how to manipulate people, especially his mother! He loves books, music, Barney and Blues Clues. When he gets to high school, I'm sure he'll be in the AV club because he loves VCRs, DVD players and stereo systems. He's really a terrific kid. Because of his seventeen year old cousin, who he often hangs out with, he knows many more people in the neighborhood than I do. Wherever we go people (especially teen age girls) say " Hi Liam! Guest guest
Hi, I was planning to write something anyway because I joined this group this week- between xmas and New Year's i think 5 years ago! Wow how time flies... So, the reason I joined is because my daughter, , now 14 has DS. She is very typically a teenager and this year her favorite gift was a teen magazine with cute boys in it. She has been in collaborative team teaching - typical kids with 6-8 special needs kids in each class with a regular ed and special ed teacher for the past 8 years. She is now in middle school and has this set up for all her major classes- Humanites (Reading and writing), Math, Social Studies and Science. Next year she will be in High School and her setting may change based on what she needs. We balance her life with mostly inclusive settings- like singing in the church choir and youth group. She also is in a socialization program for teens with special needs which she loves and in a theater group that is mostly for people with special needs, but also is integrated. She sings, acts and dances. She likes rap and hip hop music (not that I can say much about that). She has one best friend and several other girls she can hang out with. Her picture was in Times Square for 5 years as part of the NDSS video presentation for DS awarness and her pic is currently in the NDSS brochure. She has been on Law and Order. OK- almost enuf about , but she also has Diabetes Type 1 and uses an insulin pump almost entirely by herself. She has Celiac Disease and we mangage that pretty well too. I have a 10 year old son, who is going to Middle School next year and he is one of the best, sensitive sibs I have met (actually- there are so many sensitive sibs on this list!) is a musician and loves rock music (yeah i did something right!!!). I could go on about him- but... I am a teacher in the NYC public school system- teaching 4th grade this year. My husband Ralph is a para going to college to become a teacher. We live in Brooklyn, as you might remember from last weeks posts. The most important thing I want to say today is- I have met soooooo many wonderful people from this list- both here in the states and also internationally- too many to name- but you know who you are. I love our gatherings that seem a thing of the past and I wish we could rekindle them again. I miss getting together with us and if it wasnt for this group, I would not be blessed with so many smart, sensitive, caring friends who made me realize that having a child with special needs is challenging, but very rewarding. I love you guys and wish you much peace in the New Year!

Guest guest
Hi everyone, My name is Loree and I have been married to john for 30 years. We live in Coram, Long Island (smack dab in the middle of it!) We have 5 children. Our oldest is who is 29 and getting married in July. Then there is , 26, Cameron 19, Caleb 9 and Micah who is now 4 (I can't believe it!). My last three children are adopted and the littlest two have special needs. Caleb was born drug exposed and is doing really well. His ADHD can be challenging at times but he is the best kid. You will all see him in around 12 years in the NFL. He is an extrememly talented football player. Actually very athletic all the way around. He also has asthma and our social worker told us every single child she has placed that was born drug exposed has gotten asthma. Someone should do a study!!! Anyway our little guy is what brought us to the group (although this group would be great for any parent as there is such a wealth of information here on EVEYTHING!!) We adopted him at 5 weeks old when he was finally released from hospital. At three days old he stopped breathing and he was airlifted to hospital. it was discovered he had a rare form of meningitis. We finally got to visit him at three weeks old. Mistake!! We drove to where he was 4 hours away and stayed the whole day. I then had to leave him in hospital (could not stay)as we were not considered his legal guardians yet. I cried all the way home and until we could get him home. This poor little guy was lying all alone on this huge bed with no mommy. Devastating!! Anyway he is now 4 and doing very well. he attend typical pre-school half day, everyday. He is very speech delayed but like Liam's little guy his receptive speech is right there!! We use signing with him and it helps tremendously. He has reflux, very poor vision, hearing issues. Has been hospitalized three times with pneumonia and just had pneumonia again this past November but ,thank the Lord, he fought it off at home for the first time!! He is a tiny peanut weighing only 26 pounds and still wearing size 18 months (With suspenders or they will fall off lol). All in all he is doing wonderfully. I love this group and am so thankful that I found you all 4 years ago, what would I do without ya's!! Loree mom to 5 great kids

Guest guest
Do I get to go first???? lol Ok, starting with the youngest up....Karrie is 8 years old. She has a wild sense of humor, and is in 2nd grade. She was fully included until about 3 months ago. Now she is in a self-contained class with 7 kids and 3 teachers. She has a best friend, a " boyfriend " (the cutest little guy with ds!!) and seems to be doing generally better. Karrie has Down syndrome, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, anxiety issues, AAI (atlanto-axial instability), nystagmus, estophia (sp), tricuspids valve regurgitation, obstructive sleep apnea, orthopedic problems, dental problems. I think I'm forgetting one or two... Next is Kate, who is 15. She's a high school freshman, is on the science olympiad team with a " specialty " in cellular and molecular biology, on the Jets team, which is the elite of the olympiad team. She is in choir, jazz choir and has placed 1st in singing solos at state performances. She is in all honors classes, making straight A's. She has her first boyfriend, was nominated (but didn't win) for Winter Maid to represent her freshman class. Basically a great kid, but has her teenaged days... My turn...I'm a single mom. I graduated (finally) from college 3 years ago. I work in pediatric occupational therapy with the birth to 3 group. I don't have a job...it's more of a passion!! I bought a 4 bedroom house 2.5 years ago and work on remodeling it in my " spare " time. I recently started dating again. I seem to have found a really great guy. He's a special needs attorney and spoils me something wonderful!! Who's next?????
