Guest guest
Thank you for letting me join this group. As instructed, here is my introduction: My name is and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. My 8 year old son was diagnosed at 3yrs with ASD and SPD. Later he picked up a few other dx's including Bells Palsy, seizure disorder, auditory and visual processing disorders and lyme disease. May have had a mild stroke as a toddler, according to one neurologist's interpretation of MRI and physical exam. He's recovered from it all wonderfully and is mainstreamed in 2nd grade with few noticing his residual difficulties. Visual processing being the main one. His vision therapist picked up on some " primative reflex " red flags, some of which the neurologist had documented a year or so ago. A slight gait issue, posturing of the right hand when instructed to stand on one leg etc. Weakness in hip flexors, trunk instability and a few other things including terribly bad handwriting. This is the most obvious issue in school. Secondary is his poor co-ordination in team sports. Physical therapy was on the list of things to re-visit after completing vision therapy and before starting auditory processing therapy this summer. But we can't quite get the vision problem straightened out. He showed great improvement last year, then regressed very quickly after stopping for a couple of months over the holidays. After re-evaluating, the vision therapist said we should start investigating the primative reflex angle, as that may be impacting my son's ability to maintain the progress gained in vision therapy. Talked to the PT he recommended and she said that regular therapy probably wouldn't help much in this particular situation. She alternatively recommended a local Masgutova therapist because she believes that would be the better solution for primitive reflex related issues. We have an appointment for assessment next week. Previous/current treatments and therapies are too numerous to list, but here are a few: 5 years of Biomed and special diets, 1 year of RDI, OT, PT, Sensory processing therapy. All very successful except perhaps the physical therapy 4 years ago, because they didn't pick up on things that were later found by the other doctors. It did help with his tibial torsion though, so it wasn't a complete waste. And that's my story thus far. I'm very interested in learning about Masgutova and have a lot of reading to do this weekend. It would be fantastic if it can help with my son's last remaining issues. We're up for the challenge. He's very accepting of all treatments/home therapy programs and I know how to make anything seem like great fun!
