They now know the reason for this. It has been confirmed that IM suppresses T-cells and T-cells trigger the psoriasis. Psoriasis is an auto-immune skin disease. The type of psoriasis I have always had is guttate. It is also called 'tear drop " psoriasis, because it is little small areas and not the usual large areas that you see with plaque type psoriasis. When you have one type of psoriasis, it can convert to another type. When I first started on Gleevec and had a rash, we did not know for sure if it was just psoriasis or an allergic reaction to Gleevec. We actually did a skin biopsy for Dr. Druker to confirm that some of it was an allergic reaction to IM. One way to try to tell which this is...is to scrape it with something. Psoriasis is a too rapid build-up of skin cells and you will actually be able to scrape them off....some say they look silvery. Also, areas of psoriasis have increased circulation and they bleed easily when scraped. (Of course, fragile IM skin also bleeds pretty easily). Maybe the good news is that either should respond well to some cortisone ointment (I listed a product on my earlier post to ). So, maybe you don't need to know which it is??? same remedy. Guest guest
Hi Zavie, It's interesting that you bring this topic up because I have been experiencing a weird skin thing too. Although I've never had psoriasis, I have had acne issues in my life. I still get minor breakouts now, but since being on Gleevec, I've been getting small, almost goosebump looking " acne " type bumps on my arms and shoulders/back. Nowhere else. At first, I thought it was a reaction to a new bath product or clothes washing detergent, but I've switched products and the problem still exists. I don't know what it is. Sincerely, Lynn > Hi all, > > Could someone point me to a paper that discuses the Gleevec rash? > > I am looking for something that discusses what it is from s dermatological > point of view. > > I thought that I had the Gleevec prickly rash for a long time. Guest guest
I was having a rash on my chest about six months ago and when I asked my ONC about it he suggested that I change to an anti- bacterial soap and to use unscented fabric softner in the clothes dryer. Can't say that I'm cured but it has mostly disappeared and the " itch " certainly has gone away.
