Guest guest
My son, Dawson is 11 and has congenital nystagmus. We have done LOTS of therapies with success for the other symptoms of his brain injury, but that darned old nystagmus. When Svetlana evaluated him, she felt it was CRUCIAL for him to have the visual and some of the facial reflexes. I took the Visual/Auditory class in Bethesda in March and had Dawson re-evaluated in April. I've done the visual and auditory reflexes since April---but honestly, I've been sporadic. When we read the scriptures each night as a family, (we read two verses each around the circle), Dawson would usually lose his place at least five times---both in the same line and skipping lines. He could only track that if I did it for him with a card. However, this week, he has been reading without losing his place and with any tracking help, NOT EVEN his own finger. He did the same thing at Church in the hymnbook two Sundays in a row. I don't see any difference in his nystagmus when I look at his eyes, but this is a big breakthrough for him. On the auditory side, he is now singing in rhythm AND in pitch (thank Heaven!). This morning he was singing Bohemian Rhapsody in the shower---it was hilarious, but it was in rhythm and in the pitch you would expect of an 11 year old boy. At church his singing has been spot on for the last several weeks! I hope this is just the tip of the iceberg----I'd like to completely kill that *# & ^@!!! nystagmus. I also hope this encourages moms and professionals to keep going. Nystagmus is a tricky little booger and I don't meet many people who say they can help it at all. Soooooo grateful for Svetlana's knowledge and encouragement!! -- Donna BatemanNeurodevelopmental Specialistwww.parentswithpurpose.comNatural Moms Talk Radio Interview Podcast: http://is.gd/4Wwib Mom to 26, Katy Kartchner 24 , Preston 22, Annie 20, Kent 18, Callie 15 (cured from dyslexia), Carson 13, Dawson 11 (brain injured--was severe now mild!)
