Guest guest
We just returned home from the camp in San Mateo with our son Dylan, who turned 6 in December. He has CP and many of the families at the camp that saw him thought that he was high functioning (I think they were thinking that he had Autism and not cerebral palsy). He has what was considered a profound brain injury from the cord being around his neck at birth. We have been working almost daily with Dylan since he was about 15 months old. From our standpoint, he has a lot of un-integrated reflexes and although he has already made huge progress, he still has quite a journey ahead of him. At 6 years old, he cannot walk on his own yet, but does make some good steps with his walker, but only for very short distances. He has a tough time managing his body, and his movements are jerky and not well organized. We weren't expecting to see any changes during the 9 days at the conference -- mostly because we have done so much work with him already that we knew that the level we needed to reach him on was much deeper -- more in his core), and we expect that to take time and consistency. Although we weren't expecting immediate results, we did see more and clearer speech before the end of the conference. He typically picks up new words each week, but during this period, he picked up new phrases (2 or 4 words together). The words seemed to be a little clearer, and he is talking more. I KNEW without any doubt that this program would be the ONLY way for Dylan to reach the next level of development. I had read enough about this method, and talked to enough parents that had seen positive results, that it was clear to me this would help Dylan. We are the parents who search for home programs, as in the 5 years we have been working with Dylan, we have really seen the best results for Dylan with the programs where we can work with him daily. We learned at the very beginning of this journey that it was " frequency, intensity and duration " that would make the most difference with our child, and that is still true today. I would like to compliment Dr. Masgutova and ALL of the great therapists for their love for our son and the amazing work that they continue to do with our children. We were extremely impressed with Dr. Masgutova's knowledge and genuine interest in our son's potential. Her commitment to this work is an incredible gift to our son, our family, and the many other children and families that she is helping. We are honored to be able to work with her and her wonderful therapists. I will send along periodic updates as we continue the work we learned at camp in our home program. Jinger Cain www.ALittleBoysJourney.com We miss the kids! I would like to request updates on the kids that attended the san mateo conference. Please share your stories as they progress! I still wonder how the kids I met in texas last summer are doing. I mostly see info on parent support groups, but would love to read about the successes. (please and thank you!)
