Hi Vicky, We have met at a few RDI annual conferences in the past. I’ve been exploring MNRI for the past few years with my boys and my clients and have attended several workshops and a family conference. I have seen some good results with some of my clients just trying to use 1 reflex at a time. For instance with toe walkers I’ve seen great results using Foot Tendon Guard, Trunk extension and babinsky. One parent even reported increased communication the next few days following our session and when this 6’2 young man who weighs over 200 pounds got off the table he did NOT toe walk for the next 3 hours and he has walked on his toes almost his whole life. So parents were really pleased. So was I! I love this work and will continue my journey as well 1 step at a time J I think a lot more RDI families are doing MNRI. When I attended the camp in St. Petesburg Florida out of the 20 families or so there approx. 25% of them were RDI families! They fit well together. Thanks for sharing. I have not yet introduced myself to the group so I'll do so briefly here and then get on to my question for you. My name is Vicky and I am a speech-language pathologist and Certified RDI consultant in Louisiana. I recently attended the Dyn and Post Reflex course and am slowly easing into trying some of this work out on a few clients.I'm interested in how far along you are in the process and how you went about getting started. I recently did an assessment (Im sure a very poor attempt) with one of my clients. I feel like he would benefit from some work on his foot related reflexes but of course I'm not 100% as I feel like I really guessed my way through the assessment. Of course this is not due to poor teaching on the part of my course instructor....she did anexcellent job and I feel good about what I SHOULD be doing....just need ALOT of practice before I will feel comfortable that I am executing and analyzing appropriately! Would you mind sharing a little of your story as far as how you went about jumping into this work. If you have already done this somewhere, please do not feel obligated to repeat it...I'll just search the archived posts. Also, if you would prefer to email me directly that would also be great (vposton22@...). I'm excited about this work...just EXTREMELY nervous and apprehensive about getting started. At this point, my plan is to simply do it...pick a reflex or two to work on with this particular family and just see what happens. Not necessarily the most systematic approach but it's where I'm at right now. Thanks again for sharing your work. My caseload consists 100% of children with some version of an autism diagnosis and I strongly believe that this work will make a powerful impact on their development and progress....if I can just figure out how to do it correctly:-)Happy New Year to everyone! Welcome Vicky. There are many more therapist more worthy to discuss but I am glad to share. I had been following MNRI for a few years, looking into reflexes, trying to make sense of the relationship to higher functioning. I took Dyn and Pos Reflexes in Sept 09, I went back to school to experiment and practice with a passion for compassion. I teach K-2 Special Education/Self Contained. I had a toe walker very little speech, screamed all the time, hyper sensitive to touch, and several other issues. He would not let me get near his feet. I mostly went on intention and intuition. He would sit in my lap, we would sing songs along with Dr. Jean. I knew something had to be addressed with the Babinsky. He let me push on his feet (indian style sitting) after many times he let me take off his shoes, after many more times he let me do the repatterning for the Babinsky. He began to come stand in front of me for me to have him sit in his lap. He would take my hands and show me where he wanted to be worked on. One day he came and stood in front of me. In my joking manner I looked at him and said "What". He said "what" almost in a whisper. I said softer "what" he repeated. I then asked "what do you want?" He walked away and I went on with my business and the walked over to my assistants and said "go outside". That was basically the start. I struggled with what to do. If you have done / attempted an assessment you are ahead of the game, good for you. For now relax, do what is comfortable, your intention will guide your intuition will guide your attention. Children will be your greatest teacher. For me I have been at times a poor student. I have been involved in and out with Sp. Ed since 1984. I have never had or seen such profound, lasting results.Best Regards,SteveP.S. The Family Conference I attended in Kelowna was one of the highest points in my life, I had never been in the present of such greatness as the Masgutova Family, I found my bliss and am longing to attend again.
