Guest guest
Hi LeahThanks for your email, what a great journey!, just a question...did you get trained with the Prompt Institute in Santa Fe?, we live in Houston and would be interested in looking more into this method, I went in the website and started reading more about this, it says that children can make progress in 3 months to a year, is your son speaking at peer level...this makes so much sense, our son just turned 3, he also has DS, he has several words of speech but they are not clear and consistent. We just started speech but the therapist only works on repetitions of one word, so I am here thinking at that pace it will take him several years to catch up, I always thought there would be a more efficient speech therapy for our son. Understanding is not the issue, he understands everything, it is more expression, modulation and articulation. We are already doing a home based program so would like to add this interventions to support his already emerging speech development. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful resource!JanetFrom: Leah Amdur <leahamdur@...> Sent: Mon, July 11, 2011 9:44:10 AMSubject: Re: Down syndrome I have an 11 year old son with DS and also PDD which is on the autistic spectrum I saw that the school was not succeeding with teaching him to speak I took a Prompt speech course and I spent 30 to 40 hours a week on speech therapy which I taught him myself I have over 1800 songs for him and I have over 300 DVDs it has paid off He understands everything.
