Hi Kay,

When you have a disc putting some pressure on a nerve (in the spine), you

won't always have

back pain....sometimes you only feel the pain where the nerve is going,

which is down into the leg.

And the irritated nerve can also cause some muscle spasms and pain.

Here's one quick way to check if you have enough arm strength.....can you

hang from an overhead

bar, and just let the weight of your body pull on your low back and spine.

This will cause some traction to the area....if the leg pain goes away, it

sounds like it could be disc related.

I will also tell you that it is hard to correct your own posture, because

how you stand, etc feels

'natural'.....but when a trained eye looks at it, they might see that you

are putting stress on your low back, which again can cause the problems in

the leg. Doing all this was my 'bread and butter' for over 30 years. Just

one or two sessions of PT can really be instructional.......but don't go

just for hot packs and massage!!

Best wishes to you,

C.
