Guest guest
Hi everyone, Im Lynne and I joined this board to learn more and connect with others going through similar issues. My youngest one is the reason for joining. She is 9 and receiving therapy again, finally, after relocating thousands of miles and not getting anywhere previously. When she was in utero she stopped moving and the dr. said I was being oversensitive, (she was my 6th baby) I switched drs in last trimester and found out the previous one forgot to tell me I was diabetic, I went on insulin and followed the diet. I was still really sick throughout pregnancy and before she turned one they finally figured out I had Celiac and Crohns and lots of allergies. When she was born she had the cord around her neck and she didnt cry. I kept asking what was wrong but they said 'nothing, shes just happy'. I knew something wasnt quite right, all babies cry when born, well, all my 5 previously anyways. She didnt 'feel' right either, she felt floppy like a doll. She couldnt nurse at all and went from 8 l/2 to 5 lbs. we thought we were really going to lose her. She had lots of food allergies and dysarthria as well as some seizures. She lived on Alimentum for almost 3 yrs. She sucked her thumb in utero and still does and rubs her silk part of blanket between fingers constantly. She went through Easter Seals and they 'graduated' her out. She still seemed a little off compared to other kids. Her seizures were shaking episodes and laughing aloud in her sleep before she was able to smile when awake. Ive always homeschooled the kids but they were very active with church, other hs, and 4h. She always seemed younger than the rest her age but at times very mature too. Shes a real thinker and explains everything, notices things others dont, like the columns in the library are hollow and why she knows this and what they look like then compares to the other libraries. She gets some ocd habits like organizing other's desks in the library or offices, shes oblivious to the line forming behind her while she makes sure all pencil points go same direction. Her play is different since theres no imagination, shes a realist, too much so. She didnt play with toys until a few years ago and then it was a barbie house we made from a bookcase, she loves to organize, set up, arrange her collections. If another child moves things, she falls apart, but does it away from everyone. She had a meltdown last week and said she isnt like other girls, that she cant play like them, that they dont do things right, only one girl does in her life. (that girl has Autism and is almost l9 but seems more Kari's age.) We are actually living with the family right now and Kari has never been happier to connect with someone without any disagreements. Kari is receiving therapy, she is still floppy, Hypotonic and also Hypermobile. Her gait is widening and shes got Sensory issues as well. Auditory, Visual and tactile. She can read better than her older brothers but cant write, she gets letters backwards and flipped when copying and gets really frustrated. She loves to smell the flowers, but wants to smell All of them! Shes always used a great vocabulary, using other words kids dont normally use, but then uses one word at times 'bed' when tired. She is very literal. When I told her the outfit was going to be too big, that she would be swimming in it, she said " no I wont, its clothes, not a swimsuit. " Her hips have been popping and other joints too like neck and shoulders, she had an mri yesterday and sees a neurologist tomorrow. She was originally diagnosed with mild Cerebal Palsy. She looked as though she had a stroke, her face drooped a bit. She is very weak on one side and cant do simple things at times like crossing the midline, coordination. But her brothers taught her to ride a 2 wheeler at 4 and ripstick and skateboard and scooter. She used to be able to throw and catch the football but now cant catch well at all. She has this childlike innocence about her, loves to read poems and fairies, by Cicely Barker or Louisa May Alcott and Disney ones. Shes followed a gluten free and casein free diet forever. She reacts horrbly to white potatoes as though she had albuterol, meltdowns, anxiety, extreme agitation. Shes also really allergic to Latex. Does any of this sound familiar at all? I knew she was a little different but now that I see others with Autism and Aspergers and without, its becoming more pronounced. Im thinking this might be a mild form of Aspergers. Maybe Im way off here? Im not looking for problems where there arent any, Im just trying to make sense of it all, its like trying to put a puzzle together but I dont have any idea of what its supposed to look like. Im not sure how to handle this with the neuro or what to ask. If you have any suggestions, please send them this way! Thank you so much. Sorry for so long, and thank you for reading this all! I look forward to learning from you all and getting to know you better. Thank you. Lynne
