Guest guest
Hi there - My son is 4 years old with mixed type CP. We went to the clinic in Milpitas,CA in early Sept and had an evaluation with Dr Masgutova. I am really impressed and excited about this therapy! I have been doing the home program for about 3 weeks now. At first there were no problems but now he cries the minute I touch him. He arches, rolls away, goes into ATNR and pulls his hair while crying/whining (no tears). I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. He is non-verbal so I don't know what is bothering him. I know that this therapy is not painful in the least. Could he just be overly sensitive to some changes that might be happening. Do I need to carry on and " break him " of something to get past this. Am I doing too much? (30-60 mins a day). He seems to be fine if I do some while holding him in my lap or sitting him up but I don't know how effective the techniques are in this position. I'm disappointed because I really want to jump in on this but he is making it extremely difficult... I would love any input. Thanks, Kate
Guest guest
Hi Kate, The Core Specialist that we see in Canada has told me that for some kids, they need a blanket over their body while their parent or core specialist gives them the program (tactile and neuro-structural exercises. I hope that someone here, a core specialist can answer your question. le reaction to MNRI Hi there - My son is 4 years old with mixed type CP. Guest guest
Hi Kate, I am glad to hear that you got a lot of the Masgutova clinic. I have not attended one but would love to some day. I have learned about this technique through a support group that we have down here in Florida. The last meeting we talked about how some children have a hard time with to much touch and how it is more effective to start little by little. If he is not allowing you to touch him at all, it helps to do some of it while he sleeps as long as it does not interrupt his sleep. Then gradually start doing more during the day. The trick in all this is to do it as long as he likes it, even if it is a minute. Remember that you all need to be calm and in peace when touching him, so you can transmit this to him as well. Our anxieties can pass to our children. Hope this helps! Guest guest
I am NOT an Core Specialist but if it were my child I would do what I could with him in my lap or sitting up if that is what he tolerates and try again at a later date on the table. If my kids are in distress I don't do the MNRI or I find a way to calm them down first. I don't want them in a protection mode. Have you tried doing some Tactile first? My kids love it. Maybe a Core Specialist will chime in...for a more professional view. > > Hi there - My son is 4 years old with mixed type CP. Guest guest
Hi Kate,Tactile made my son nuts in the beginning...I actually waited until he fell asleep in the beginning to do the work. Now (a little over a year since we started) he asks for it every day & doesn't flinch. He seems to know that it helps him. It might help to do it in a different position...it could be too much information you son's body to process while he is lying down. I have often done tactile with my son on my lap. I hope that helps!DebbyFrom: le MC Côté <danielle.mc.cote@...> Sent: Wednesday, September 28, 2011 6:40 AMSubject: Re: reaction to MNRI Hi Kate, The core specialist that we see for my son told me that for some kids, they need a blanket over their body when they are receiving the tactile and neuro-structural therapies.
