Hello,

My daughter is a beautiful 16 year old. We adopted her from Russia when she was 14 months old. She spent the first 3 months of her life in a hospital and the next 11 months in an orphanage. She has been diagnosed with auditory processing disorder and ADHD. She has a great deal of difficulty with short term and working memory. She has an IEP and attends our local public high school. She has passed the State graduation tests in both reading and writing; the math test is next year.

Any auditory environment is an extreme challenge for her. She is warm, kind and fun loving. She is a wonderful person. However, she struggles in conversations and that greatly limits her social and developmental opportunities. My understanding from the assessments is that her "hearing" is fine; it's the "processing" of the auditory information that is a struggle. She seems to do much better in the virtual word (on the computer), and she loves video and computer games.

Physically she is strong. She loves sports, and she has excellent eye-hand coordination. She went out for high school golf this year, made it to the JV Team and went on to win the award for the lowest overall average of the season ( in golf, a low score is a good score). Her balance is not great, however, and this along with the auditory processing deficit sometimes holds her back when it comes to sports. She is a hard worker, but she tires easily.

We are looking forward to working with Brea Malady and hopefully attending a family conference. Based on our first meeting, Brea seems incredible.

I am interested in learning if anyone else has a child whose challenges primarily revolve around auditory processing and memory and to what extent the Masgutova Method has helped with those issues.

I have read many of the posts from others and am awed by the dedication and persistence of so many parents, therapists, caregivers and kids. I am honored to be part of the group.

Sincerely,

Ginny
