I actually had a " lady " come up to us at Wal-Mart when Karrie was about

2, pat her on the head, and say, " Well, at least she's a pretty little

thing " . I was stunned for a moment and then thanked her. I figure most

people want to say something nice...some just aren't smart enough to

know what they are saying is ignorant...

My mom said the other day, " It's ashame he's afflicted. He's such a smart

little thing. "

I was so stunned I couldn't respond. I think I said something like, " Mom,

he's not afflicted. He just has Down syndrome. " and walked away.

You always have to be prepared for the unexpected, eh?
