Hello everybody,

I was Dxed 7/02 and have been taking 400mg Gleevec and am PCRU.Other

than CML no other problems and blood counts are all ok. I am

planning to travel to Ethiopia and I was advised by the travel

clinic to do the following vaccines. If anyone had taken these pills

while on Gleevec please let me know. Thank you

-Hep. A

-Polio booster

-Typhoid

-Meningitis

-Yellow Fever (Live vaccine)

-and either Larium or Dosycycline for Malaria

I have also e-mailed my onc. but it might take her a while to

research.

There were several CML vaccines in trial at MDACC last year. I was in

the CMLVAX trial. There were only 10 f us in the trial and, and during

the course of the 15 injections over one year, I believe everyone

either improved or stayed the same. I really don't know whether

eveyone who entered trial completed the trial. It was a long year, and

I developed an allergy to G-CSF along the way.

The results of the vaccine study are unclear, but my leukemic burden

was decreased. Three months ago I was .01 at MDACC and undetectable at

COH. Since I am a " Wobbler " (defined as one who wobbles in and out of

PCRU and flirts with going out of cytogenetic remission) the test may

be whether my status remains stable at low levels of detection, or

possibly decreases. Perhaps the results will be presented at ASH this

year, but I think that if the results were clear or astounding, they

would have expanded the trials.
