Guest guest
Ok, so I went to register Nic yesterday. My first question...........should I have had to pay the registration fee? I don't think so but the girl at the IU billing said they don't pay for that, only the tuition. What ever happened to " without any expense to the parent " ? I'm looking into that for reimbursement. He is only goin once per week and socialization is on the IEP so I need help with wording my complaint..... The director there is really nice. I found myself babbling about Nic and his likes and dislikes etc. She sat there smiling, letting me babble. When I realized it I told her how nervous I was about this... She tried to reassure me that he would do fine. We weren't sure where to place him tho'. She doesn't want to feel " out of it " if he can't keep up with his age group but at the same time doesn't want to put him with the younger kids because of 1). he won't learn much from them and 2). He is bigger than them and doesn't want them getting hurt. So we decided to put him with the same age group and see what happens. I am worried about nap time...nap time is 12-3, can you believe that??? Thats long. Nic doesn't nap that long here. I KNOW he will not lay down for them and don't want him disrupting the other kids.....I'm so nervous about this..............I told her I didn't want it to get to the point where the teachers say " Oh no, it's Friday-Nic's coming today " she said not for me to worry but I can't help it. any suggestions would be appreciated... I remember when 's preschool teacher's would shock me with some of the things he would do there...like eat with a fork...that he wouldn't do at home. Peer pressure at that age is a beautiful thing. Also, sounds like a good director...give yourself a break and let her do the worrying. That's her job. You'll feel better after you get a few Fridays under your belt. I'm looking forward to hearing how he does! R. Mom to (6, ds) and Grace (3)

Look at both and decide of the special school really outweighs what he'd learn from his same age peers. Nic will surprise you. I think that schools are > typically > very structured and many kids with DS and without thrive on a structured > enviornment. Our home lives are not always that structured (honestly, with > other kids, hubby who works different hours, etc how can it be??). > > ROTFLOL or not Heehee Sara was very disruptive at nap time, during EI and Kindy. At EI I picked her up at 12pm so the others could sleep, the program ended at 3pm so a 3 hour nap wasn't necessary and she wasn't missing anything. At school they used the " nap time " as time they could work on computer skills or other IEP objectives. Guest guest
That's true and I think that was one of the options we thought about. I think I'd like to see how this works first, I think he really needs the SPED more, right now. Also, the IU took so long in finalizing this, the only day available is Friday.
