Guest guest
Jeez , Isn't camp supposed to be fun for everyone. This one seems like more of a headache than anything.............. sorry you went through all that..............next year................ Di, mom to Jake(17,nda) and 3 (DS) Pennsylvania Re: it's starting already... Urgh!!!! I spend the morning in a panic. 's summer camp program has been awful..we keep him home on Monday and Tuesdays and Fridays. Today, figuring they may have a field trip, I dropped him off earlier than I usually do. I stopped by 7-11 and picked up another gatorade b/c the heat index was to hit 100. This has been the hottest week of the summer and I was all prepared to remind them that can not tolerate heat..keep him inside after 10:00, etc. Instead I got hit with a " suprise " fieldtrip to Redskins Park (a big deal here) and that he could not take his lunch, gatorade or bookbag (with change of clothes)..and the snotty teenage twit told me that there was no cover/shade. I know I could have just grabbed him, took him back home and taken leave...but I don't have daycare for him for the next 2 weeks and have little leave time left. So I asked the stt to give me the number for Redskin Park..she told me she didn't have it handy and to call information like she did. I knew could handle the morning...but not afternoon. I also worried about him not being allowed to take his stuff in. Oh, oh..on top of that, she said, do you have his stroller...duh....so they go and get an adult wheelchair for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I go off to work..fuming, suppose to meet with the director of my agency at 9:00 and had little time to iron stuff out. First, called 411 to get the phone number to Redskin Park and got " due to the work stoppage, there are no operators available " . Called Parks and Rec and left a message on someones answering service. My asst. director stopped by and asked what was going on..she gave me the name of someone else to call. Meanwhile, I also call nonemergency sheriff's dept to get the number. Also called Tim to tell him one of us will have to get him later on. Finally got ahold of Redskin Park and found out that they DID have air conditioned tents and that could take in his bookbag. Also, that they would supply him with liquids should he overheat. They also said it was inadvisable to bring small children to the camp today. Starting to feel better now......called the asst director of parks and rec....told her that the daycare should have called me Monday or Tuesday and I would have made alternative arrangements..plus told her that the woman I talked to at Redskin Park said due to the heat expected, it was not advisable to have small children there. She promised that they will make sure things would be ok and that the staff would buy drinks if need be. Turns out they sent the direct supervisor of the camp program out to check on things. was in the tent along with another child from the program. The children then returned to their regular facility around noon. Jeesh..... Oh yea, the asst director also told me " Did they not offer to let him stay at the camp? " Tim said all along that they should have that option. There were staff members there. Honestly, I want included but I think that next summer I may send him to the MR program just so he can have educated adults provide care to him. The rest of the day I was completely frazzled.............tomorrow is his last day at camp......and his afterschool worker IS COMING BACK..YIPPEEEE!!! Di...all I can say is always be prepared!!! This whole morning could have been avoided if they called me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
