Guest guest
I was a girl scout leader for two years with my daughters.. and I can assure you, most all of the rituals and outings are definately adaptive to a child w/DS. My daughter Kaitlyn (7 DS) went to all but one trip with us.. We enjoyed camping, singing at a nursing homes, bowling, making christmas cookies for the elderly, wrapping christmas presents for the less forturnate, a haunted hayride and pumpkin patch, a swimming sleep over at a Hotel.. and many more.. The only outing I did not let Kaitlyn participate in was the road clean-up.. Our troop adopted a road to keep tidy and we need to walk down and clean 3 x a year.. And I felt it was too dangerous with the traffic for her to partake in this activity. As far as the songs go.. the more you sing them the more she will pick up more words.. it will just may take her longer than the other kids.. but if the troop is anything like ours.. ALL THE GIRLS WILL EXCEPT AND LOVE HER WITH OPEN ARMS.. GOOD LUCK! Tracey Mom to Kaitlyn 7 DS & 13 Brownies > My 8 year old daughter started Brownies last week and I volunteered to be a > co-leader.
