Guest guest
Hello, all. An update - My sixteen year old son, Tom, was dx with CML 8/04. He had a matched unrelated donor bone marrow transplant (MUD BMT) on 05/05/05. He is now day 39 post transplant and doing well. I received the news today that he is BCR/ABL negative - no leukemia and 100% donor cells. He had a little graft vs host disease of the skin that is rapidly disappearing. He is being weaned off his prednisone. He is currently taking Acyclovir (anti-viral), CSA/Gengraf (anti-rejection), Nystatin (anti-fungal), Protonix (stomach), Norvasc (blood pressure), Bactrim (antibiotic), Prednisone (steroid for GVHD), and Levaquin (antibiotic?). He stopped doing the liquid nutrition (TPN) via IV pump today. First time I saw him smile spontaneously in a while! We are both happy about that. The bad news is that he was taking a different anti-fungal, but his liver counts are elevated and his eyes are a lovely shade of yellow as is his skin. So now he is on Nystatin, which isn't as strong so he will be at increased risk for fungal infection. He stopped the TPN because of the elevated liver counts. All-in-all he has had a good experience so far. Barb Neddo http://www.caringbridge.org/wi/tomneddo
Guest guest
Barb, My thoughts and prayers are with Tom. A 'little' GVHD is a good thing. The 100% donor cells + the smile is a great step forward! Levaquin is an antiobiotic (I finished 10-day round of it this past spring for an ear infection). Take Care, Gale Bacon > Hello, all.
