Having had Aphresis twice (once by my arm veins and the 2nd time by the groin) I much preferred the catheter in the groin area as it felt much less claustrophobic to me. It does all sound daunting, but as you mentioned it isn't as bad as that - and certainly much better with a healthy dose of sedatives! Rest well and congratulations on getting through the first day. Have they collected all the cells necessary or are you due back for another round?
