Hello Kathy! Thanks you ever so much for all the links! I am not a

believer in antiobiotics either! Creates more weaknesses in the

body I feel! I will try goat milk and tea bags until I can get out

to get something different.

Thanks again for all the help!

Cheers!

Pamela,

I'm new here (, mom of 11 including 5 month old Gabe with ds).

How is the eye infection? I haven't looked at the sites Kathy

suggested but will definitely check it out. I try to avoid

antibiotics, too. I used antibiotics for a child's conjunctivitis

once (about 15 years ago) and since then have just used a visine-

type drops (saline) every hour or two until the infection went

away. With eleven kids I've seen a fair amount of pink eye.

However, I do not believe it is as contagious as people make it out

to be, or else we do an exceptional job at hand washing (which I

doubt). Even with a large homeschooled family I've never had a case

spread to any others--they've all been singular.

The only time the drops didn't work was when my year old daughter

hadh an aggressive bacterial infection. But, it was obvious that

that one was no ordinary pink eye--within 8 hours of waking the

entire white of the eye was blood red and oozing.

Hello ! I feel it is not so contangeous either. Other 3 kids

are fine and never caught the infection. He is much better this

am! Thank goodness! It was the worst eye infection I have ever

encountered! The goat milk seemed to do the trick as there is no

more oozing this am!

WOW 11 kids, congrats! I find my 4 keep me busy. Are they all your

or are some adopted. All my guys are adopted 3 Asian and one

Bulgarian.

Thanks for posting!

Cheers!

Our jamie (20mo/DS) has had conjunctivitis 2 or 3 times by now, the

most severe was last winter and my wife and I got it as well as it is

extremeley contagious. We used either antibiotic drops or saline

solution, since our doctors couldn't say if it was caused by a viral

or bacterial infection, the symptoms are exactly the same they said.

In our case the antibiotic eyedrops didn't help and it all cleared

away after between 7 to 10 days, but had it much worse than we

did. His eyes were nearly completely swollen shut, he looked like a

zombie and it must have been very unpleasant for him - it was for me,

itchy as hell!

Anyway, to cut it short: my doc recommended not to start with

antibiotics until after a few days of using saline. If it doesn't

clear up after a weeks time you can still use the antibiotics which

will do the job in a quite short time.

I'd suggest you use Camomile tea bags.. I used cammomille tea to get

rid of my first sons conjunctivitis when he was little.. advise from a

danish friend.

If ocular antibiotics didn't work.. you might check with eye dr. on

other possible problems.
