Guest guest
--- Hi , I read about this woman last year or two years ago,, ( Dont remember , gleevec moments, lol) in htis Glamour!! I was excited enough to write to the magazine and getting in touch with her and tellin gher about gleevec!! Her story was she is young ,works for Glamour mag, gotten engaged, and then found out she has cml!! LAst SAturday on the NBC " s Today show, she is interviewed by Brown about her " new Book'!! As interested it might be to some who DONT know about our website support group, I ,personally, dont need to go oput and buy this!!! She is lucky she is a writer and have connection to be able to publish her story and journey!! she is NOT the first person to write about cml! Long ago pre-gleevec days , another which I forget her name, wrote a book too!! And at that time the internet was just really getting started to have medical support groups forming! I didnt NEED to buy her book either since I am a patient too!! I'm just not sure who the audience is for their books except for US, CMLer's!!! I am very skeptic that they are out to make money but/and MAYBE convey some ifo about cml and what people who know about!! Well, looks great and I am happy that she is doing well, BUT Never in the interview did she mentioned Gleevec, this miracle drug that saved our asses! I was so disappointed and now that i think about , I just might want to write her and tell her that!! ( NOt feeling the love for the book, could you tell?) jeffrey c dx 1993 on sti571 2000 ---on going and going and going... Hi Jeff, First, to clarify for others....the CURE articles is about more than and her book....it is a very good article for newbies, and explains the various tests....also has an interesting time-line for the history of CML treatment. About 's book......what others like to read is very individual. I have not read it (others on the list have) and it is an account of how a young woman deals with a cancer diagnosis and goes on with life. This is interesting reading to some, maybe especially other young woman dealing with cancer. It is not meant to be a technical book about CML....just like Lance Armstrong's book It's Not About The Bike, is not a technical book about his cancers. It's about the issues you face, decisions you make, etc......and these journals can be interesting to some, or inspiring....or not your cup of tea. Same with almost all literature. As far as not mentioning Gleevec.....I think that her audience for the most part is not going to be interested in or remember the name of the drug....just like you or I might not remember someone else's heart medication....they are interested in her story. Glad to see you posting her Jeff....we are both old timers! C.
Guest guest
-- Hey , Yes, We ARE Old timers and it is always so good to see you here and I'm sorry I am not posting much to this group!! Also sorry for being so cynical about 's book and you are so right that this book follows her journey of her leukemia as a young woman is I thnik married by now and 'starting' her life again after having the holding off the cancer and resume her life as fully as possble!! It can be an inspiration for other people like ourselves and others in similarly circumstance!!! Its also wonderful to hear info on the new drugs developing still and hopefully a REAL cure will be achieve!! There has been times when I am so afraid I may become gleevec intolerant and knowing there is a possible new drug to solve that problem as it is for some who are intolerant now will be available!! Happy Fourth to you! and to all!!! jeffrey c - In , Cogan <ncogan@u...> wrote: > At 11:55 AM 7/3/05 +0000, you wrote: > >--- > > Hi , > > > > I read about this woman last year or two years ago,, ( Dont > >remember , gleevec moments, lol) in htis Glamour!!
