For instance, if your chance of dying from leukemia was only 1 percent in the first place, taking 18 percent off of that 1 percent is not really that stunning. There are different kinds of risks -- relative and absolute, and the quick-hit news articles don't explain that, and this particular story did a horrendous job explaining what any of this means.
