Hi Everyone

I wanted to let you know about an upcoming documentary about

children with mental disabilities and the treatment of people with

disabilities in the United States. The film centers around a school

for special needs children, Clare Woods Academy, in the suburbs of

Chicago, Illinois.

Each spring, the school puts on a musical, and students with

disabilities ranging from Down Syndrome to Autism get up and perform

memorized dances and dialogue in front of sold out houses. Following

the students from casting through rehearsals and finally the

performances, the personal struggles of a few main characters are

revealed, as well as their family lives and individual disabilities.

The larger picture of life after this special school environment is

also touched on, the lack of work programs and jobs that accept

disabled adults. The goal of the film is to educate those who are

not familiar with different developmental and intellectual

disablities, and to bring the issue of the lack of resources for

disabled adults in the United States into the spotlight.
