Guest guest
Hi Donna, I feel your pain! Of all the things that has had to deal with the one I think I dreaded most was having to change the way we ate and how I cooked. Food is such an emotional issue and it's EVERYWHERE... ha! You will have to give yourself and your son some time to adjust to a whole new way of doing things. It will come, but it's not going to come over night. I think it took me a good solid year to feel at home with 's new diet. I was hoping we could do gluten free most of the time and get away with it, but alas, it didn't work so we are back to doing the Specific Carb Diet with fewer infractions. ( if curious see peacanbread.com, which will also give you some more gf recipes you might want to try) It also takes a while for taste buds to acclimate to the new foods. For there were lots of things which just had to be cut out, never to be seen again with no real substitute for them. Once your son if feeling better, he will most likely not miss the old foods anymore. The transition is the hardest and this time of year is really hard no matter where you are in a special diet. Christmas is the mother ( or maybe father) of all food holidays!!! His blood tests might be a reflection not of the severity, but the irritation he has going on. The longer it's left untreated the worse the reactions to it. I am just guessing, it doesn't really matter as he won't be eating gluten again anyway. :-) http://www.glutenfreemall.com/ This is the on-line super store for all things GF. I don't think there is a gf goldfish though. I really don't know a lot about GF pre-made foods as my dd can't have those either. Fortunately, I had been following all the posts here on the board or we might still be trying to treat him with priobiotics (sp?). We're still coming to terms with the diagnosis even though we pretty much new what the results would be--finally, though, a "diagnosis" and some way to give him relief. I do have many questions (we don't see the Ped. Gastointestinologis t until tomorrow). Looking at the tests results, I see that anything above 17 is positive; however, my son's levels are 31 for IGA Antibody and 84 for the IGG. Does this mean it's extremely severe (84 vs. 17). Is there such a thing as "extremely severe".So far...my gluten-free bread I baked...flopped, he doesn't like the perkey O's; but the chocolate chip cookies I baked at midnight actually tasted pretty good (or was I just exhausted?). Please, please someone tell me that they make gluten-free goldfish somewhere!!Any advice for a newby would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,Donna__________________________________________________
