Guest guest
Has anyone ever gone through a period of days where they cannot keep Gleevec in their stomachs? I am having a rough time and have tried taking Compazine but even that is not effective. I have a doctor's appointment next week and I will try to work it out with my new doctor (my former one has just left!!) but was wondering if this is unusual. I eat a good sized meal, take my IM, and then about 45 mins. later it leaves rather violently. But, am wondering if it is in my system for at least a half an hour, am I getting any benefit from it, or does it take a longer period of time? Any help or info is appreciated. - Lynne A. Guest guest
Key, thank you very much for the information. I am going to split the dose and try to something heavier, like bread. It worked for me today and I am very happy now that I've got it back in my system. Again, thank you and everyone else who responded. Lynne A. Guest guest
How many milligrams are you taking? Just wondering if you could split it up? I always just felt nauseas about a 30 minutes after taking mine. I wonder if there is something stronger than Compazine he could give you. Let us know what you find out at your new doc. Guest guest
hey Moon (no pun)... Each system is different however, everysystem breaks down food the same way (corn not withstanding).. But just as doctors say, food must be digested and to do that, it has to be broken down while passing through the system. Gleevec is absorbed into the blood stream once it is ingested (orally) then the acids in your stomach breaks it down as it does with other soluable items. It may cause a discomfort or a 'movement' to occur more rapidly however, it's not entering and leaving your system w/o entering your blood stream. Think of this scenairo: If you drink alcohol, and you immediately go to the bathroom to urinate, does the alcohol still enter your blood stream? (that's a simplified metaphor but I think it works). Gleevec still enters into your system so I wouldn't worry but it's always safe to have a doctor check you out if only for your piece of mind... Guest guest
Again, identifying that all reactions are different: I find that eating a meal before taking Gleevec and drinking plenty of water staves of any symptoms of nausea. Before, I didn't heed the warnings/instructions but since I've begun eating and drinking fliuds, my nausea episodes have disappeared... jennifer bosse <jenniferabosse@...> wrote:How many milligrams are you taking? Guest guest
Hi Lynne, I discovered a few things that guarantee nausea with Gleevec for me. Since making some adjustments in my diet, I have alleviated the problem. Gleevec is highly acidic so don't add any acid to the meal that accompanies it. I found that coffee, orange juice and vinegar-based salad dressings do not work well with Gleevec. For awhile, I thought the problem was not enough bread because I was on a low-carb diet. After more experimenting, I found that lack of carbs wasn't the problem, not enough protein was. Be sure to eat a good-sized portion of protein, preferably meat or fish, with your Gleevec meal. I also drink a glass of milk or eat some cottage cheese with Gleevec. And of course, finish it all off with lots of water. Hope this is helpful to you.
