Number 881 in the Zero Club Zavie [CML] New Member Hi, My name is Shira and I was diagnosed one year ago (8/04) with CML. I just heard about this listserv and after reading the warm welcomes that Sheila received I thought I'd introduce myself. I am now 45 and had been taking Gleevec very successfully until May. In fact, I believe that I would qualify for the Zero club, based on the last biopsy that I had. However, in May I started feeling crummy and it was quickly determined that my liver was experiencing a toxic reaction, presumably to the Gleevec. I was taken off of Gleevec immediately, and now, three months later, I'm almost 100% recovered from liver failure. My white blood cell count continues to be normal, and until it shows CML again, I'll remain off treatment. We're hoping that one of the drugs currently in trials will work for me-assuming it's different enough from Gleevec that I won't experience the same liver problem again. In the meantime, I'm now concentrating on building my strength back up from my 3 months of being mostly off my feet and enjoying every moment of every day!
