Guest guest
Fellow voyageurs, I have been absent from most discussions on the list as I zoom in on my haematopoetic transplant scheduled for July 1 at City of Hope. My conditioning protocol has been revamped three times, but it looks like I am being admitted on my birthday, June 24, de Baptiste Day, to start a FRC regime to knock back my CLL and quiet my immune system to accept the kindness of a stranger's blood line, Then it is time for tough love as my new immune system seeks out and destroys the residual cancerous cells that survive their first blast by the FCR chemo. My blog bkoffman.blogspot.com will be the best place to follow my adventure. I am also trying to turn off my doctor gene and just be a patient for the road ahead, Not easy for me. This I promise: I will be back. I will give back. I am so grateful to list and plan to help others become part of the community of former CLLers. If I have a hint of that path, at least for me it involved putting together the right treatment team, becoming as educated as possible about the disease, and then looking at the options, and then looking again and again, until I found a trail that involved reducing the risks by moving them upfront. Pre-emptive transplant. And now it is happening, I will not be posting much for the next month or so, but my blog will be more active. Be well.
