continued after I was finally diagnosed. Mine were for the most part

sinus (two surgeries because none of the antibiotics could clear

things up), kidney, and bladder. I get IVIG (gamma globulin) infusions

every 4 to 6 weeks depending on my labs. In addition to a CBC + a chem

panel my doctor tests for IgG IgA and Igm every 4 weeks. The IgG count

determines how often I have the infusions.I also take Macrobid

(Nitrofurantoin - 100mg) nightly to prevent further kidney/bladder

problems per my nephrologist. According to him it does not cause the

body to build up a resistance to antibiotics like some of the others

can.I have been fairly infection free recently - much better than

before in this regard. Pat (another newcomer)

starting with an asymptomatic low-grade fever that lasted several

months and resulted in weight loss, extreme fatigue and musle wasting

(I lost 20 pounds). I started to feel better generally, but then soon

followed a stream of annoying infections on fingers (very painful)

or mouth sores (ditto). My oncologist said my bloods were okay, and

that sometimes people with CLL have these oddball infections. But it

didn't really start happening until 4 years AFTER diagnosis (Stage IV)

and treatment with Rituxan and Fludarabine. Why should I suddenly get

these infections? Would IgG be good for me?

Pat, Thank you so much for your answer to Marietta. I found it very informative since I've been getting so many infections lately. It seems as if I'm on antibiotics every couple of months. Hi Pat - Many thanks for your response. I'm sorry you've gone

through so much! It's heartening to hear that the IVIG seems to be

working well for you. I saw my oncologist yesterday who took bloods

to see if I'm eligible for IVIG. He says it's no picnic, but that

side effects were minimal if anything. Did you experience any?
