Guest guest
Dave: I didn't have a specific discussion about it. I've been consulting with Dr. Canellos at Dana Farber and it was his recommendation. I believe it was because of the mild toxicity. I had no nausea and no hair loss. It was convenient and pretty cheap. And it seemed to do the trick, together with Rituxan. Guest guest
About 4 years ago I went into kidney failure and had to start treating my SLL/CLL. We used 2 rounds of rituxan a month apart and low dose cytoxan (100 mg daily) for about 10 months. Because my kidneys were so inflamed due to cryoglobulemia I also had high dose prednisone thrown in at the beginning, and then tapered off over a 3 month period of time. All in all (except for the prednisone), it was a well tolerated treatment and put me in CR for four years. Now platelets are dropping (142) and I'm considering whether to treat again, low dose cytoxan and rituxan. > > Toby Hollander > dx 7/99 SLL/CLL, tx w/ rituxan x2 in 2003, w/ low dose cytoxan, CR since > hello everyone, that's something I've been wondered too after my oncol suggested cytoxan-rituxan combo as a chemo approach, if it comes to that. She never explained why. Maybe it was because she thought I might have autoimmune cytopenias, AIHA and ITP. Dr. Kanti Rai used C-R +steroid (dexamethasone) in such patients, but that was no low dosage protocol. I myself would prefer to stay away from fludara because of it's T-cell and bone marrow toxicity. I'm leary of cytoxan too, and low dosage sounds intriguing, but i never heard cytoxan being used this way. Maybe Dr. Furman can comment.
