Guest guest
I know Dr. Furman has weighed in on this topic but I just wanted to say my oncologist Dr Strair agrees with him. I am on prophylactic meds every day and he says I will continue until my counts improve. I can't take bactrim, it seems I had a reaction to that when I was in the hospital for electrolyte imbalance so I take mepron and acyclovir and fluconazol. I had dental surgery so I have to take amoxicillin 4 x 500 mg before surgery and three times a day for the week after the surgery. This is mostly because I still have my port. My doctor is very cautious. I completed four rounds of RF in March and now I have to see him in two months instead of the usual three months. I don't mind because he has my best interest in mind. Also wanted me to introduce myself to the group although I note that most of you know me from ACOR and the CLL forum. I live in New Jersey, I was diagnosed with possible b cell lymphoma in November 2003 which was changed to CLL in January 2004 although Dr. Castro my second opinion doctor calls it CLL/SLL my doctor doesn't, but that is semantics. I was watch and wait until November 2007 and started treatment because of enlarged lymph nodes so bad that they thought I had breast cancer! They went down almost immediately after treatment and have not yet returned so my doctor says I am in remission although I have not yet had another ct/pt scan because there was some issues with the insurance, which has been resolved. I am starting a self help support group in central New Jersey in the fall. Jeannette Brown
