Does anyone know if the eye problems are related to Gleevec? I spent time

yesterday telling my oncologist how my eyesight is worsening. I have to use

reading glasses along with my contac lenses now, and have blurry vision that

comes and goes. I don't know what is causing it, and he said he has not yet

heard of any reports related to Gleevec, but suggests I see an

ophthalmologist as soon as I can. I had this problem when I was on Interferon,

and I was

told there was a buildup of white cells in the optic nerve. But as I got off

IFN and onto Gleevec, it went away for a long time.

Now it is back, no halo or colors, no problem with peripheral vision, just a

blurring that drives me crazy! I blame it on fatigue, and as I read/write

quite a bit, I wonder if it simple eye strain, but still worry about Gleevec

as being the culprit. The doctor told me also it could be related to

menopause?????

Just thought I'd share my recent eye problems too, since you are all talking

about this. I did buy some Bilberry supplement and that is helping with the

crusting/swelling in the morning, and hope over time, it helps with this

blurring. Lutein is supposed to increase eye health and it is listed in the

ingredients. Does anyone else take this? - Lynne A.

Hi Moon-ey.........

I think the blurry vision that comes and goes can be Gleevec related. If

you have any eye swelling,

not the puffy eyelids but watery eyes, that can distort your vision.

Sometimes this fluid seems thick

and sticky and that probably makes vision worse.

Try using 2-3 drops of Visine AC in your eyes each AM....this is a

decongestant.....and see if it

makes a difference.

I just went out and picked some blueberries.....you know what I like for my

eyes!

Lynne,

It's not Gleevec, it's being 47. Seriously, there's

been a lot of discussion about problems with vision in

the groups. I KNOW I'm not seeing as well as I did 3

or 4 years ago, but when my eyes are tested, they

always come back 20-20 with my glasses on. It's hell

playing golf with a seeing eye dog chasing the ball

because I can't see it.
