possible chickenpox exposure

Boy, am I upset & in a quandry! I was due to start my first ever Rituxan tomorrow for AIHA. Then today, while babysitting my 18 month old grand-daughter, my grandson, age 5 who was at school, came home with red raised spots on his abdomen & armpits, but no other symptoms at all. He feels fine. Both kids have had their chickenpox vaccinations. My daughter-in-law took him to the pediatrician, who said the spots definitely looked viral & MIGHT be atypical chickenpox, even with the vaccination, but he couldn't say for sure that it was (atypical) chickenpox. I had no contact at all with my grandson, but had played with his little sister all morning.

So the big question is, was I even exposed?? It's possible that she could have chickenpox, even with her vaccination, & not be symptomatic yet, but still be contagious. Or not.... But since I've had CLL for 8 years & am immunosuppressed, I think I should play it safe & have a dose of IVIG, like Terry Hamblin recommends for those exposed to chickenpox. But then I keep going back & forth & think maybe I wasn't exposed & don't need that radical a treatment, anyway. But then I think I should "err on the side of caution" & play it safe, since CP can kill folks like us! Too bad it's not more black & white, instead of all this vagueness & uncertainty!

So, looks like I'll be getting some IVIG tomorrow instead of Rituxan. But maybe it will help my AIHA & we can delay the Rituxan for a long while.....!

All comments appreciated!!!

Regards,

Marcia in Ca
