Guest guest
Hi , your posts are very informative, but looking over the lists I cannot figure just what would be good for me. When I was on Myleran I took Cod liver oil caps every day. but now with gleevec and very low platlets (around 35,000) I am not sure just what I should take as I must be careful of brain bleeds... my other counts are ok white good but hem a bit low.. not too bad for me though.. I have to go for a flu shot next week as ordered by Hem Doc and would talk to my GP about any thing I may take if you suggest something.. thanks SkipD " it is only with the heart one see rightly-- what is essential is invisible to the eyes " --- Cogan <ncogan@...> wrote: > > Dr. Bubalo, #2 > > Drug Interactions > * cause reduction of chemotherapeutic > effects........ > St. 's Wort, garlic, gingko, grape seed, Kava, > nutmeg, quercitin > (partial list) > > *chemotherapy drugs affected............ > includes Gleevec, Taxol, Tamoxifen (partial list, > included many > familiar sounding drugs used with BMT, > preconditioning and treatment) > > **per Dr. Bubalo, problem with St. 's Wort, it > speeds up > metabolism of Gleevec and it is not as effective. > ____________________ > > some herbals or supplements increase the effects of > selected > chemotherapy drugs > > these include: > echinacea, ginseng, goldenseal, grapefruit > juice/seed extract, > licorice, milk thistle (fruit and seed), red clover, > red yeast, > valerian, wild cherry > ____________________ > ____________________ > > Effects on Blood Elements > **may lower platelets > **may affect red blood cell production > **may increase early types of blood cells > **may increae the risk of bleeding when used with > blood thinning > agents (ie warfarin/Coudadin) > > Agents which may reduce platelet numbers (complete > list given) > *alpha lipoic acid (IV) > *chromium picolinate > *Gingko biloba (WHO ADR Report) > *kava kava (chronic use) > *L-arginine (IV) > *Lentinan (shiitake mushroom component) > *parsley (massive amount of volatile oil) > *pokeweed > *selenium > *ephedra (6 cases with FDA)......banned substance > > Agents which may increase the effects of blood > thinners (complete > list given) > *arnica > *bilberry > *Bishop's Weed > *borage seed oil > *bromelian > *chamomile > *clove > *coenzyme Q-10 > *danshen > *dexpanthenol > *Devil's Claw > *Dong Quai > *Fenugreek > *feverfew > *fish oils > *garlic > *ginger > *gingko biloba > *ginseng > *green tea > *horse chestnut sweet clover > *IP-6 (inositol 6 hexaphosphate) > *licorice > *meadowsweet > *onion > *papain > *parsley > *passion flower > *quassia > *quinine...........which some of us use for muscle > cramps > *red clover > *Reishi mushroom > *St. 's Wort > *sweet clover > *tumeric > *Vit E-containing herbs (ie sunflower seeds) > ______________ > > Agents that may decrease iron absorption > *black cohosh > *chamomile > *feverfew > *hawthorn > *gossypol > *nettle > *plantain > *saw palmetto > *St. 's Wort > *valerian > > Take these 2 hours away from any iron supplements > ______________ > > Increase early forms of blood cells (may be > undesirable) > > *alkylglycerols (shark cartilage and shark liver > oil) > *melatonin > __________________ > > Agents of concern with surgery > > **Stop these agents 2 weeks before surgery > echinacea - affects liver function > ephedra (Ma huang) - increased cardiac risk > ......now banned > garlic, ginkgo, ginseng - affect blood clotting > St. 's Wort - decreases efficacy of anesthetics > valerian - makes anesthesia unpredictable > > resume them when it is OK with your surgeon > _____________________ > > next installment.....herbal safety issue, regulation > of herbal > industry > > > __________________________________ - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.
