Iam hoping you can refer this to Dr. Furman as i nearly died from this andwould like to better understand what i am up against now. Thank you,CarolAnyone who may have info on how steroids affect immuno-compromisedCLL'ers: I was recently hospitalized for a week with salmonellainfection in my blood. I was told by 3 doctors who treated me that i waslucky to have survived it. This is the first time i have faced anythinglike this and have never been so sick in my life. My recovery is goingvery slowly and i am tremendously debilitated, as well as having to looksomething in the face i have never seen before.I have been on steroids quite a bit over the past year for AIHA and was on60mg a day when i got the infection. Can anyone tell me how the steroidswould have compromised my immunity to the salmonella? I do understandthat having it reach the blood was a flukey thing and that is why it wasso serious. But the docs were also very concerned with my beingimmuno-compromised. My neutrophils are very good, as is everything elseexcept for having AIHA and CLL and being on the steroids.Would salmonella have been considered an antigen i didn't respond to?What kinds of infections, viruses, etc should i be on the lookout forwhile on the steroids? Thanks! Carol Carol - I thought this was answered - I'll call it to Dr. Furman's attention - Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges?
