Our CML friends in Poland

Hello Everyone,

Whilst in Dublin we heard from the Polish group about the recent actions in

their Government. The Polish government is trying to pass a bill that will

disallow reimbursement of Glivec (as it is know in Poland) forcing CML

patients back on Interferon and leaving GIST patients without any hope of

surviving. I have uploaded sample letter for you to have your doctor sign,

for you and your family to sign. Time is of the essence as we need to get

this done by July 10th.

Dear All,

I had had a short speech about bad situation in Poland concerning CML and

GIST patients during the conference that had been set in Dublin, in June

this year. Then I decided to ask you for help.

We work together with The Polish GIST Patients Association. I believe that

you can help us in our struggle for the best treatment for CML and GIST

patients in Poland. We are still waiting for Polish Parliament to vote a

bill concerning reimbursement list, which is the only way here to have

Glivec (which is undoubtfully the best treatment for both diseases)

reimbursed. We have to act fast as the Parliament terminates in September,

25th. Around the 10th of July we are going to send a letter to our

authorities, members of Parliament, political leaders, media and others

demanding the approval for Glivec.

I would ask you to provide us with a letter of support for Glivec approval

in Poland. I put all the details in a letter to our authorities, so please,

find it enclosed (it is translated into English). We are willing to have

your letter attached to ours. I have also enclosed for you two drafts of

letters of support: for leaders of your organization and for medicine

specialists. I hope they might be helpfull. I also wonder if you can ask

other patients groups' leaders or clinicians that you know in your country

for the same kind of help for us.

If it is possible, please have it also sent via regular mail or fax (or

scanned version is fair enough) as your signature is needed.

I have already send many letters to the friends - patients groups' leaders

from all over the world and I started getting from them letters of support

and also from some doctors. I have also contacted ECPC. I am very greatefull

for everyone who has already sent us warm words and letters of support.
