Guest guest
Just a thought, ask the doctor for a fecal test for MRSA. It can cause diarrhea. I know because my own daughter caught MRSA in her bowel at the hospital in 2009 because she had a NG tube that wasn't sterile, and she was running to the bathroom constantly because of diarrhea. She tested positive for MRSA. It was treated right away both conventionally and alternatively, and it went away. A follow-up test was negative. Worth a shot. Guest guest
Dear , Most drugs seem to have diarrhoea as a 'side effect'. I was given an antibiotic for a skin condition during my first cycle of FCR, and got horrendous diarrhoea. I was given " codeine phosphate " 30mg I took 4 a day until things improved. Things did improve after 3-4 days. Who knows if it was the codeine? I am so pleased the bloods are so much better, but I know you have a few other hurdles to go. Wishing Neeno well, Oliver From: SSingh <naturalway@...> Subject: SCT chronic gvhd diarrhoea CLL@... Cc: Date: Sunday, 30 January, 2011, 16:49 Thank you all for your replies and the links to sites for gvhd. sorry havent been able to reply individually just had no time. My wife was started on cyclosporin on the 24th Jan. 180 mg daily. The skin gvhd and that in her throat seems to have responded. Liver and kidney functions seem to be ok . Platelets have gone up and the blood picture is perfect! No neutropenia since the last neupogen on the 18th Jan. The haematologist has stopped the prednisolone . The only problem is an acute diarrhoea she has developed. Can cyclosporin cause that? The haemotologist said to watch out if the stool was granular which it isnot. Today had a C. Dificile test done which is negative. So thats good. Cultures are awaited for any other bacteria. The haemotologist said that cyclosporin can cause diarrhoea sometimes. Any one had experience of that? We saw the haemotologist on Friday, she said that the skin and all seems to be better and now we need to monitor the cyclosporine levels, kidney tests and Bp etc. My wife has been very depressed by all this, the doctor is very nice, she has worked with prof Catovsky at the Royal Marsden and also knows Prof Mackinnon, so we are lucky that she has relocated to Delhi just when we need her. She tried to cheer up my wife , said you have got over the worst, now its just the tail end and it will be over. GVHD seems to be better but the diarrhoea has knocked her out. The thing is we normally use Ayurvedic herbs for this and they have worked better than the allopathic things like Immodium etc. But with Cyclosporin have been advised not to use any alternative medicine, so thats a problem. Trying to control it with diet. Trying homeopathy which should not react with the Cyclosporin - the homeopath said the doses are very small to interact with anything. Any one with experience of this? Any inputs will be gratly appreciated. Going through all the links sent by everyone for the gvhd. Good health and best wishes to all. from Delhi Wife diagnosed at age 43 with CLL in 1997 Ran the gamut of Chlorambucil, FR, FCR till 2008 Under Prof Catovsky's guidance. Finally Ofatumumab in 2009. SCT from sister in Nov 2009 at the Royal Free London under Prof Mackinnon High dose DLI in September 2010 Now chimerism test shows cells are mainly donor and CLL cells gone. MRD test says no evidence of disease. Now chronic GVHD of skin and mouth. Started cyclosporin
