Interview with Dr. Link, ASCO President-Elect, on

the Ongoing Drug Shortage Crisis

" Currently, there are known shortages of a number of

commonly-used drugs in oncology. Drugs of particular concern

in pediatric oncology include doxorubicin, etoposide,

vincristine, cisplatin, and nitrogen mustard. I have heard

from colleagues-both directly and through ASCO headquarters-

that their practices are having great difficulty in

obtaining these drugs, which are used in both pediatric and

adult oncology.

For the drugs you mention, is there considered to be an

acceptable alternative or substitute available? If so, are

there special considerations in using the alternative drug? "
