Guest guest
Study published in the journal Blood, has found that type 1 interferon/STAT3 normally a tumour suppressor reverses to a cell growth stimulator in aggressive CLL cells like 11q and 17p. CLL cells with aggressive clinical features were found to also express high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which decrease tyrosine phosphatase activity. It is much more complicated than this, but this is the gist of it. The researchers suggest that: " Anti-oxidants or STAT3-kinase inhibitors might improve the outcome of IFN-therapy in CLL by restoring normal signalling.
