Guest guest
A few weeks ago I posted either to the group or an individual that the doctors I'd seen over the last 3 yrs had decided, after going back and forth, that the main cause of the numbness in my feet/legs was thalidomide, with complications probably arising from my spinal stenosis. Something one doctor had said left me with that impression but in fact, I got it completely wrong. Since thalidomide used the same basic M.O. as lenalidomide (Revlimid), I want to be sure to correct any misapprehensions I may have left in anyone's mind. My excellent physiatrist confirmed yesterday that the severe weakness I have in my left foot could only result from spinal stenosis, not from the drug. He also read me the report of the neurologist I consulted last year, which was that spinal stenosis is the major cause of my problem. The effects of thalidomide, if any, can't be assessed. I hasten to add that this same thalidomide gave me 7 yrs of s CR, after years of far less effective tx results. So rejoice, all ye Revvies. While you may not be able to rule out peripheral neuropathy altogether, hopefully it won't hamper you in your life. Alas, for several reasons I'm not a candidate for the surgery that would probably be the next option. -Frances
