ALC Doubling & treatment

Well, it looks like my second encounter with treatment is

approaching much faster than I had thought. My WBCs have

been on what seemed a gradual increase since spring of this

year, but my most recent 3-month appointment last week

showed a steep increase. Just like before my first

treatment in '08 (FR), I didn't have a clue things were

progressing so quickly, because I have no B-symptoms, only an

occasional, slight twinge in a neck node and only a slight

decrease in hemoglobin. Platelets and neutrophils are fine,

and I've had no immunity issues. Having the WBCs increasing

steeply once again after a 2-1/2-year remission makes my

marrow seem to be going crazy. It seems rather sudden and

strange to me, and I'm finding it hard at times to believe,

feeling and functioning as I do. I'll admit to wondering

what lies in store for me during and after the treatment

I'll be facing in a few months.

I've always found it very helpful to read about other

people's experiences. While there's no way to predict what

path our individual CLL will take or how our bodies will

respond, it has helped me to know what the range of

possibilities might be. In that spirit, I just wanted to

check in to let folks know what's happening with me. Choice

of treatment will depend on the outcome of BMB tests and PET

scan (first one ever) in January. My onc is thinking

perhaps R, or BR, and I'm wondering whether it'll be time to

consider a clinical trial. I'd love to be able to benefit

from one of the newer, non-chemo options. There's so much

more I want to do before my time is up!

My best to all,

Karni
