Guest guest
Here is an early post,(2004) By Dr. Hamblin, thanks to for digging this out for us (Login Required): http://listserv.acor.org/SCRIPTS/WA-ACOR.EXE?A2=CLL;4c5271e4.0409 This post seems to be pretty specific however. this particular post dealt with a particular type of pneumonia vaccine (perhaps the pediatric vaccine, which is marketed as a smaller dose as well) or any protein vaccine, not the polysaccharides, whether it would work with this version or this flu vaccine is unknown. Note, there are several other drugs are also H2 receptors. Some may be on them already. (and may have different names in other countries as well) not just zantac....for those who wish to read what was said then. read the post and try it if you like. Not certain however that this is still current thinking tho it seems every year someone comes up with this. suppose if one is already on the medication or wishes to experiment.... at least that's what I get out of it. be well, beth fillman
Guest guest
Beth, Thank you for taking the time to remind us and inform us. Perhaps this is a question for Professor Hamblin or Doctor Furman if they are about. After referring to the British National Formulary, interactions section, on Ulcer healing drugs of which Histamine H2-antagonists belong to: http://bnf.org/bnf/bnf/current/41001i741.htm I see possible issues with use of Cimetidine with many other drugs. For example; the metabolism of calcium-channel blockers is possibly inhibited by cimetidine. But for Ranitidine there is very little. Is this because there are only the three listed? I ask as my necessary blood pressure management must not be compromised. But may wish to take advantage of trying Ranitidine with this years vaccination. Are there any contra indicators.. Of course all medications are discussed with my own medical team. Kind regards Nick (UK)
Guest guest
Nick the H2 antagonists are mainly used for inhibiting acid production. Some people believe that blocking histamine might enhance response to vaccinations. While the role of histamine is known in the immune system, whether cimetidine, ranitidine, or famotidine actually have a clinical impact upon vaccination is unknown. I suspect any benefit to be likely not significant. The agents are all metabolised differently, with cimetidine having more interactions than the others.
