Guest guest
Kate Holsen is a second-year student in Elmhurst College’s ELSA (Elmhurst Life Skills Academy) Program. The four year program is designed to provide a full-time post-secondary educational experience for young adults with developmental disabilities. Kate was born with Down syndrome. At Elmhurst College, she has enjoyed participating in campus activities, including a campus talent show where she won second place with a vocal solo. She has held a part-time job in the campus library, and formed close friendships with other students. She has received A’s in most of her classes. Elmhurst College is one of a handful of schools in the country pioneering in offering such programs. Unfortunately, her future participation in the program may have come to an end. Kate is from Moline IL, and requires a host family in the Elmhurst area in order to continue her participation in ELSA, which doesn’t have living accommodations on campus for its students. During her first year, she lived with a wonderful family in Elmhurst, with three other Elmhurst families generously offering their homes for occasional “backup” support. Since September, Kate has been living in Lombard with a wonderful woman and her daughter, who also has Down syndrome. A recent job change has prevented the woman from being able to continue to host Kate. Her parents, Jay and Ann Holsen of Moline are seeking a family to host Kate for the January term and second semester. One possibility might be to have more than one family each host her for a period of time. Financial support is available. Please call Ann at either 309-762-2278 or 309-269-0962(cell) with questions. Thank you. Remedi 630-832-3042(home) 312-577-8349(work) 630-544-0386(cell) _____________________________________________________________ Save hundreds on getting a Web Design Degree.
