Guest guest
Hi all, Just got this email from DisabilityWorks and thought it may be of interest. If NapervilleWorks (for which I attended an informational meeting in the fall) gets launched in the near future, this initiative may be something this group can pursue. Apparently Emmett is involved. Susie Redfern Text of email: Announcing the opening of the Midway Moving & Storage Document Destruction Division in combination with the company's new Disability Community Outreach Initiative. The focus of these efforts is on creation of employment and training opportunities for workers with disabilities & revenue development for community based organizations. The initial pilot project is a collaboration between Midway & Little City Foundation, but Midway is also planning to expand the initiative across Illinois and will be looking to collaborate with community based organizations and schools across the state. Jerry Siegel, CEO of Midway, is known for his community focused efforts and is looking to help demonstrate to the Illinois business community how powerful of a labor and customer market that the disability community is. As this initiative grows across the state, Midway will focus on three components of collaboration with community based organizations: - Employment for People with Disabilities: The Document Destruction Division will focus on providing employment and internship opportunities to qualified individuals with disabilities. Because Midway has an existing relationship with Little City, this organization is the natural choice for the pilot program, but as business grows with additional document destruction contracts, Midway will partner with area non-profit organizations to recruit and hire qualified individuals with disabilities. - Job Training for People with Disabilities: Much like Midway did for the moving industry, the Document Destruction Division has the potential to be an outlet to train destruction processors. Midway will create a training curriculum in partnership with its disability consultants that will be the first of its kind, to ensure that all destruction processors with disabilities are professionally trained. Besides learning how to use the equipment properly, customer service will also be emphasized. The end result is professionally trained individuals who will be careful, considerate and conscientious. - Income for Non-Profits: A portion of the net proceeds from the recycling income will be returned to non-profit organizations that assist Midway with the venture. Midway invites you to a cocktail reception on January 10th at the Midway headquarters to kickoff this exciting venture. Eat, drink and give them your thoughts and feedback. Fell free to contact Emmett at 574-808-9779 if you have any questions.
