Guest guest
Joan, Good luck with coming up with an optional treatment. If FCR looks like the best option, I know for myself, I’d rather choose temporary baldness (and wear scarves, hats, or a wig) than not take what looked like an effective treatment. Have you consulted or can you consult a specialist for an opinion? It might depend on the status and symptoms of your CLL…. Best wishes, Karni
Guest guest
Joan, My first CLL treatment was chlorambucil (leukeran) and prednisone. Took care of the CLL long enough (about 2 years) for me to be diagnosed with breast cancer. For that I was treated with taxotere and cytoxin and did lose my hair. I wore cute hats for about 4 months, and then had the most perfect perm I will ever have! Lovely curly white hair. I matched my mother and had a wonderful photo taken with her and her sister. The curls gradually grew out, and now my hair is more salt and pepper with only a bit of wave, which I had before treatment. It has remained thicker than it was before the taxotere and cytoxin, however. After about a year I needed treatment for CLL again, and had FCR. I mentioned looking forward to curls again, and the chemo nurses said, " Oh no, that was the taxotere. You won¹t lose your hair " . And I didn¹t. It may be that FR will be the best choice for you anyway, but I don¹t think you need to worry about losing hair with FCR. I hope you are able to consult with a CLL expert about the next step.
