Guest guest
I spiked a fever two weeks after my first round of FR. They called it a neutropenic fever, which I think might be a buzzword for " fever of undetermined origin when you're neutropenic " . They did numerous blood cultures, chest x- ray, checking this and that. I never did have any symptoms of illness other than the fever. I spent four days at the (OSU) being pumped full of several antibiotics (including vancomycin, which really screwed up my veins) and went home on an oral antibiotic (in addition to the Bactrim that I already take daily) only after I had been fever-free without Tylenol for 36 hours. Granted, I wasn't following precautions because my counts were still pretty high at the end of the first round. I didn't think they would drop so far, so fast, even though people on the list warned me that they would. Live and learn. I am starting round four today. No fevers since that first round. I'm grateful... I'm also very, very carefully following neutropenic precautions every day. I'm back at work. I have a " new normal " and it's o.k.
