Clostridium difficile infection is an increasing burden to the health care

system, totalling more than $1 billion/year in the United States (PMID:

19457418).

C. difficile is a debilitating bacterial infection in the bowel, sometimes

caught by CLL patients while they are in hospital (community acquired). It can

reoccur many times and it can be fatal.

Studies are currently underway using faecal enemas to treat C. difficile.
