Guest guest
Hal, Yes I was just hopitalized in may for a bite and had to have antibiotics and a debridement done! I had a huge blister on my leg! There's a steroid prescription cream that helps before the blister it's called triamcinolone Acetonide cream also benadryl gel at first bite might help Antibiotics sooner rather than later it's sure scary! Guest guest
Hi Hal, Below is link to an excellent article 4/25/10 on the CLL Topics Updates website titled " Insect Bites " by Venkat. If you register you can then read through all the informative comments by the registered members of CLL Topics Updates. http://updates.clltopics.org/2214-insect-bites Two comments I found helpful were (1)4/25/10 by Venkat about d-Limonene and (2) another on 5/21/10 about tea tree oil. I have found both these agents to be helpful in the manner described in the comments. Good luck - Patti
Guest guest
Yes, when I get bite from mosquitos or other insect, same happen to me. I use a herb that I place on my bites and it helps get the swelling down and healing process.

Guest guest
I used to get massive welts the size of a small dinner plate from mosquito bites, about 2 yrs. ago, that lasted days. I was afraid to go outdoors. I even went so far as to get mosquito netting clothing to wear on top of my shorts and top. Then, lo and behold, something clicked, and for the last 2 yrs. the mosquito bites are normal-sized, no super- reactions. And it has been only since 2011 that I starting treating the cll. The body is very strange. This may be a condition that resolves after a while, at least it did for me. Ellen
Guest guest
It's called Cantron, you can only get it on the internet. http://www.cantron.com/home.htm Mod's note from : As this is alternative medicine, this will end the on-list discussion of Cantron. Guest guest
Yes Hal I am a beekeeper and now keep an Epipen. I have to be very careful and had some reactions they called Bullous from bee stings. Uncomfortable and ugly but I try to be more careful. Other bug bites are exaggerated but not to the level the bee stings give me. No I have not thought of giving up beekeeping that would be the logical thing to do. When I harvest 8-10 gallons of honey it is hard to give up this hobby. Guest guest
I am sorry for the bad reactions others are having to mosquitoes. I had felt I was lone with this malady. My first exaggerated response to mesquito bites was the spring during my first CLL treatment after a 14 yrs watch and wait period. I don't usually feel I am being bit. The bites swell within 12 hours, get to the size of 1 to 2 inch in size turn red bluish, almost purpura like, have a clear blister in center, are painful and ITCH and take about 2 weeks to heal -- leaving a permanent brown spot. The bites on my arms and face swell, get large and take as long to heal but do not get the blood-shot blister reaction the lower legs do. Since I was getting them mostly on my lower legs (the area exposed) my family doctor, my oncologist, and a dermatologist were of the opinion they were not mosquito bites. I seem to draw the critters when no one else it being bothered by them. I have used the strongest repellents which would not assure me more than an hour protection. Another dermatologist ask my blood type. She told me people with A negetive blood type draw mosquitoes and my CLL causes me to over react to them. Has anyone else heard of this correlation? This year after four years of this severe problem I have worn long pants even during our drought and 117 degree weather and stayed inside (not a year one would want to be outside). Guest guest
YuVonna, I have the same problem no one else will get a bite but I suffer whenever I get bit and rarely do I feel it ! Eventually it turns into this horrible blister ! We went on vacation and I ended up in the hospital from a bite! My husband may not come with me much longer! I love to travel and I do not want to totally give it up! I've had to give up my job that I absolutely loved! This illness is really hard to fight! I have the 11q and a aggressive form of cll I have done fcr numerous clinical trials and currently taking cal 101 but now I have to have IVGG every month for my immune system is anyone else in this situation? I can send a photo of the blister on my leg to see if it is the same just email me bugs seem to love me! Suzanne
Guest guest
Hal, Yes, I'm sorry to say that this exaggerated reaction is common in people with disturbed immune systems, like us with CLL. I had the same reaction as your wife last year - and that was right after treatment while I was supposedly in remission. This summer, I do have a sensitivity but it doesn't seem as bad. I cover myself with insecticide - the hard stuff with deet - whenever I go outside. That also helps! If you search this group for mosquito or bug bites you'll get an earful. I wish your wife all the best! Marietta, d 2003 rituxan/fludarabine; 2010 rituxan/bendamustine
Guest guest
For those with exaggerated responses to insect bites, has anyone found that starting IVIG or going through treatment lessens the problem? So far I have not had the exaggerated response except for one bite that developed into a cellulitis that spread from fingers to elbow before diagnosis, but insects do love to chew on me and repellants don't seem to do anything. I read somewhere that they don't like the smell of dryer sheets. I'm ready to tape those on my arms and legs when I go outside. Pat
