Guest guest
Ask: What is her cobb angle? Make them take an x-ray! What is her RVAD? Tell them you want an MRI ASAP! This will tell you if it is idiopathic or congenital, and will determine the treatment plan. How many infants have they treated with infantile scoli? What kind of treatment do they do? What does the ortho. know about Dr. Mehta? Has he heard of the serial casting with POP jacket? Do not let them tell you " lets wait and see, come back in 3 months. " See how open he/she is in learning about Dr. Mehta's method. Is he willing to learn, read about, or research. Don't let them bully you around. You have a little one to take care of, and she needs a good, competent, and compassionate doctor. If you don't like what they have to say, let us know and we'll help you get in touch with Shriner's in Slat Lake City. It was nice talking to you. I can tell you have great concern for your daughter. You have found a great support group with very knowledgeable parents, grandparents and caretakers. Guest guest
Hello Baird, Thank you so much for responding back to me. I wanted to write down everything that I should be asking the doctor on the 17th so I wouldn't be forgetting anything! I am just so blown away with all of this. It seems like I cant think right ever since they told about her.I just wish the appointment would come faster. Well thank you again from the bottom of my heart! Guest guest
Hey Olivia- I had responded to you last week and I think that hit the nail on the head and said just exactly what needed to be asked, but I wanted to add that you should ask the doctor how many children they have treated with progressive INFANTILE scoliosis- and if it was successful treatment. We ran into a lot of docs who'd seen scoli in children and adolescents, but not infants. Also, lots of docs treat w/ braces, surgery or the " wait and see " approach. You want to make sure that your daughter's doc is familiar with the Mehta technique, how important early treatment and early intervention is, and be determined that you are not going to just, " wait and see " if the scoli progresses. If you are told that, there is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion or making the return visit to this ped. ortho sooner than later for a f/u appointment. Just remember that this is when your little one is growing so rapidly and her growth can actually be used as a corrective force if she is placed in a cast. Read the articles on ISOP's website and arm yourself w/all the knowledge/questions you can, so you understand what you are told the day of your appointment. Good luck. Feel free to call or email me. and Evan Olivia Ruiz <oliviagruiz2006@...> wrote: Hello Baird, Thank you so much for responding back to me. Guest guest
and hit all of the important things to ask. Be sure to take in a list with all of your questions. Otherwise, you may end up being so overwhelmed that you are going to forget to ask some of them. Most importantly, do not let anyone intimidate you. You are her mom and her best advocate. Oh, and be absolutely sure to get copies of her x-rays (assuming they will be taking them) before you leave the appt. Be sure to write down all of the numbers and the key things the doctor tells you...it wouldn't hurt to have some one there with you as well. I know both my husband and I end up remembering different things that are said at each appt so it really helps to have another set of ears. Good luck and be sure to let us know how it goes. Feel free to email me or call any time if you have any questions. Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) Re: What Do I Do Now? Guest guest
Hi, Well your doctor could be right about one thing, I'd be anxious if I couldn't swallow or breathe too!! But antidepressants? come on, he's having a laugh... If I broke my leg I'd be worried about getting it mended, what would he do, give me anti depressants so I was happy and just leave the leg untreated? Check the endo out on Dr fosterhealth to see what he specialises in, better still ask to see one of the endo's on Sheilas list. if the endo is any good at understanding thyroid problems, you should just be honest with him... They can see people who are exaggerating a mile off. Have you ever had blood tests for suspected thyroid problems? Do you have the results? Do you have any other symptoms? x > > went to the doctor yesterday as an emergency appointment. i havent been sleeping great as i felt as though i was choking and was keeping me awake. after giving doctor my throat symptom he put it down to anxiety and has prescribed me antidepressants. Guest guest
Jan, I do not put any fruit in my water kefir, and I don't chill it. I just drink it as soon as I want to after straining it. The fizz usually improves after a day, sometimes it's just as good the first day. I usually drink all the water kefir within 24-48 hours of straining it. I also drink most of my dairy kefir immediately after straining it. I put the rest in the fridge and it is fine for several days. I make about 12-14 oz per day and keep removing excess grains as they multiply too much for the small batch I'm able to use. > > Water kefir - Do I have to worry about putting some kind of calcium in the water? > > I put mine in sugar/water right away as directed by Marilyn. What do I do know? Do some people even drink it w/o any fruit in it at any step? Do I put that in the fridge for 24 hrs.? > > Milk kefir - I am doing mine by the glass since my husband won't touch any cultured stuff. After it is fermented and strained it goes into the fridge for 24 hrs.? Do people drink this straight or add things to it to sweeten, or make smoothies only? > > > jan >
Guest guest
My husband was diagnosed in March 2011 with CLL/SLL Stage 4. He is 70 years old and in excellent health until this diagnosis and the only medication he takes is for blood pressure. We have seen the oncologist 3 times. He has had CT Scan, bone marrow biopsy, blood work, and weight checks. I'm lost as what I need to do. Do I ask for copies of all his tests? We have no idea what is going on except that he is on watch and wait. The CLL/SLL was found when a lymph node in his neck was removed. The bone marrow biopsy was positive for cancer cells. CT Scan showed lymph nodes above and below his diaphragm. We don't know how long he has had CLL/SLL. He had the enlarged lymph node in his neck five years ago and they did a CT Scan and ultrasound. Both were negative. I've been reading all your posts and I don't understand any of the medical terminology used. The only thing I recognize is CLL/SLL, CT, & PCP. Where do I go to learn what I need to know in order to help my husband? He says he is not having chemo or radiation but right now he feels great and works full time. He has no symptoms at all except some weight loss. Where do I go from here? Carol
