Guest guest
Dear IPADDU members, My apologies for not paying more attention to the IPADDU website. I've just been swamped. I am going to attempt to answer as many questions as I can. It will be catch as catch can as I have just been chosen to be on a jury for two weeks. Let me start by sharing that the FSN is planning 4 more of our Dreaming New Dreams Seminars for this March and April. The dates are still being nailed down. But we are planning on Naperville and ton, Champaign, and Springfield. THERE you can REALLY get your questions answered. I am also struggling to complete a " Frequently Asked Questions " document that right now is a mere 28 pages. I wanted to have it done before Christmas and now this trial. I plug on it whenever I can. It will be posted on our website when complete. There are many other materials there already. For Pete's sake explore the right hand side of our homepage. Tomorrow there will be three more documents of great interest. Not for the question below… I'm a little confused but can share this: Of course, the funds can be used for many things other than personal support. There is a whole menu of supports and services. Your service facilitator should be able to share that. Of course, you can be a personal support worker for your son. But, you CANNOT be the employer and the personal support worker. You need to find someone who is willing to do that for you. It could be an extended family member or a friend. There are differences between the Child and adult waivers, not many, but some. It's too much for me to respond to this morning. Let me summarize like this: The Children's Home-Based Support Services Program (official name) is for children 3 to 21. They get 2 times SSI. The Adult Program is for persons 18 to death. If that person is still in the school system they can only access 2 times SSI. But, once they have left the school system they can access 3 times SSI. There are a few services available in the adult program that are not available in the children's program. The one that comes to mind first is developmental training. The difference that is most significant to most people is that in the Children's program, parents and family members cannot be personal support workers. In the adult program they can. Okay, I'm off to the jury! I'll try to answer another question or two this evening. Charlottte
