Guest guest
, one suggestion that I would have for a library job is to see if she can volunteer there first. Many times, a volunteer will get an open paid position. > > I realize now that I did not point out that our daughter has already > received her high school diploma. Guest guest
Oops! Some of the resources I sent in my original response to you might still be worth checking out. RE: Library - Is being the library something she loves? If so, I'd look at how to " sweeten the pot " ...could she volunteer to get a foot in the door. When she interned through Parents Alliance, were those successful? I would think that the point of their work would be to turn those internships into jobs. One the keys to find success is helping our kids find their passion (even if that is a repetitive habit that makes us crazy but that could be turned into job). We used to joke that my daughter would be an awesome Wal-Mart greeter. She loves to engage with people and people who love to endlessly talk are her favorite kind of people. She has limited speech and a lot of things only family can understand but she can say clearly " Hi! How are you today? " and she will say it over and over again trying to keep people talking to her. It drives me crazy but wouldn't it be a great skill for a Wal-Mart greeter? Unfortunately, the elderly have the corner market on that job in our community and 's passion lies elsewhere but... I would certainly go back to DRS...it sounds like she has great high level skills and that is what there job is supposed to be...getting her a job. (We didn't even know her high school had a transition coordinator until she was out of school. They very effectively kept us in the dark.) So we have been paying out of pocket for the PACE Program. She had had a file with DRS, but they closed it when we said she would be attending PACE. The high school did pay for Parents Alliance to work with her to get a job, but 9 months of that and still no job! She graduated with a B average in mainstreamed classes. We'd like to see her living with minimal supervision, employed at a library. (She has interned at two public libraries through PACE.) How can we entice a public library to hire her when there are so many friendly, outgoing college students around, vying for the same jobs? AND, we're just not sure where to go to get " adult " services....
