Dear Friend,

As many of you know my daughter na was diagnosed with Autism about a year

and a half ago. For over a decade my passions to help those who couldn’t help

themselves hit home at the DiCianni’s and I have to be honest with you, it was

tough for both Rose and I. After helping hundreds of families over the years

many having children w ith autism, I now personally understand what many of

these families are going through. What I didn’t realize was that health

insurance did not cover Autism. Now I realize why so many people were coming to

ECAF and the needs (both emotional and financial) were so immense. No typical

family could afford to get their kids the treatment in therapies that these kids

need and are so medically proven to be successful today without going into large

amounts of debt. Without these treatments and therapies, these kids will never

realize their potential of being independent and having a full, fulfilling life.

The long term

costs to our society not to mention the inhumanness of not being responsible in

dealing with the State’s and this country’s number 1 children’s condition that

effects 1 in every 150 children born today, would be insurmountable and

irresponsible. For this reason I have taken it upon myself to research, develop

and author a piece of Statewid e Legislation that will change the way insurance

looks at Autism in our state. A synopsis of the bill is attached in pdf for your

convenience.

What I need from each and everyone of you is to help by calling and writing

their State Senator and express to them how important this bill will be to

Illinois families. Whether you know of someone personally touched by this or you

have been touched directly as myself, your voice needs to be heard. If you don’t

know who your State Senator is google “find my Illinois Legislator”. Please

contact them in their district office and let them know how important this

really is. The average family spends between $25,000-50,000 per year on

therapies (Speech, Physical, Occupational, ABA) not to mention psychiatry,

pharmacy, and dietary. This bill will give every family touched by autism in

Illinois up to $36,000 per child in care for this condition. The bill was just

introduced on Thursday down in Springfield. I have bi-partisan support for this

bill as indicated on the attachment from two strong and caring leaders including

the Chief Sponsor,

Assistant Majority Leader Senator DeLeo-D and Chief Co-Sponsor Assistant

Minority Leader House Rep. Angelo “Skip” Saviano-R. If you could ask your

Senator and House Rep to support and possibly be a co-sponsor of the Senate Bill

1900 that would be terrific. Since the bill is being originated in the Senate it

is key to contact our State Senators with first priority and then naturally our

House Reps as well.

I ask you to please do this for the 1.5 million children of this country and the

over 30,000 in this state. Many states have already passed such legislation and

it’s about time we do the same and give these kids the opportunities that we so

often take for granted.

God Bless These Kids

With Love,

Pete DiCianni

Ps. For Elmhurst folks, I have attached contact information o n our local

legislators. Please forward this e-mail to anyone you think would be willing to

help. We’re also looking for people who have a child with autism to go down to

Springfield and testify on this bills behalf. Also if your concerned about how

much the average families health insurance would go up if every child with

autism hit the maximum cap, it would be about 20.00 per month in increase for

every Illinois family to have coverage for Autism for every child in this state.

($36,000/150=$240.00 per yr./12=$20/month)
